WHAT IS TRAVERTINE ?

Travertine is a type of limestone that is brought to the surface from underground by hot springs. It usually has a fibrous or concentric appearance and is available in white, tan, cream and rusty varieties. Erosion from the spring water creates small holes and craters that give travertine a naturally pitted appearance.
The holes can be filled with concrete during the production process or with fillers during installation. This raw, weathered look has traditionally been used as outdoor garden tile or pool liner, but is now an excellent choice for indoor flooring, shower walls, backsplashes and countertops. On the other hand, its porous nature makes it highly vulnerable to acid damage and staining. Regular maintenance is required to maintain its appearance.

We can analyze Travertine in three areas.

Versatility
: Travertine can be used indoors and outdoors. Its natural beauty is found in its earthy tones and textures. Ranging from warm beiges to rich browns and the creamiest of creams, its blended colors and unique veining allow for different patterns and designs. Travertine can be incorporated into your main flooring, kitchen accents or bathroom walls, as well as retro and contemporary styles.

Durability : Travertine is best known for its durability. When properly sealed, it is a strong and resilient natural stone that can withstand intense floor activity and endure the rigors of daily use. Thanks to its resistance to scratches and cracks, it can easily adapt to almost any project.

Heat Resistance : Travertine has excellent heat resistance. It is perfect for areas exposed to high temperatures. Whether you plan to create a stunning fireplace or a sun-drenched patio, travertine can cope with intense heat without losing its beauty.

  • Warning
It is important to realize that travertine is a porous material. This means that it absorbs liquids and stains. Regular maintenance is essential to protect it from unexpected damage.

Travertine is sensitive to acidic substances such as citrus juices, vinegar and cleaning products. Spills containing acidic compounds can erode the surface of the stone, leaving dull stains or permanent damage. It is therefore very important to avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the surface
